Kelowna Cycling Coalitions – please join.

by

There are two cycling coalitions in the Kelowna area. The most active is the Kelowna and Area Cycling Coalition. There is a UBCO Cycling Coalition however it has been active sporadically. There are signs of life recently – it would be great to see it blossom into an active involved organization.

If you are interested in joining either of these organizations (no cost but a bit of time to sign up) please use the following email addresses:

Kelowna and Area Cycling Coalition – kelowna_cycling@speedymail.org

UBCO Cycling Coalition – ubcocycling@hotmail.com

I would suggest that you join the Kelowna and Area cycling coalition even if you are a member of the UBCO coalition. The KACC meets regularly, is involved with issues of access to UBCO and with facilities throughout Kelowna. Since the City is “numbers” oriented, it wouldn’t hurt to belong to both organizations.

The KACC would be happy to have you sign on even if you can’t be an active member. They ask that you forward a short email indicating your permission to be put on their list of members. Please include your name, email address, telephone number and if not your address at least an idea of where you reside. If you are interested in taking part in a particular part of the coalition’s work please indicate this in your email. This information will be used only for the purpose of KACC business.

I would suggest that you provide the same information by email for the UBCO cycling coalition.

If you are not an avid cyclist but feel that pedestrian facilities need improvement, consider joining the KACC. The organization is cycling oriented but in most cases, improvements in cycling infrastructure are an improvement for pedestrians, skateboarders and other non motor vehicle oriented users.

Please join if you can. The bicycle coalitions need numbers in order to be fully recognized by the City, Province and others and of course they can always use involved members.
